PARABLES 1.1 : His Word

Hebrews 4:12 says
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
There are four highlights in this verse.
1. Alive and Active !! When the word of God is proclaimed to be alive and active, how much more alive and active is the God who delivers these words. We are discussing about a living God.

2. Double edged sword !! Oh it is not just a double edged sword which has alternating consequences where it can make a proud soul, humble and a perverse spirit, obedient, but sharper than any double edged sword

3. Penetrates to divide soul and spirit, joints and marrow !! The word of God through the holy spirit has the ability to separate and cut off the sinful habits which have become natural to our soul

4. Judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart !! The word has help men/women discover the true thoughts and purposes of their heart. The heart is an open book to the self once the word fills inside it.

The Lord said to Isaiah, (6:9,10)
Go and tell this people: "Listen carefully, but do not understand. Watch closely, but learn nothing. Harden the hearts of these people. Plug their ears and shut their eyes. That way, they will not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their hearts and turn to me for healing"
Now for the above four highlights to impact our heart and soul, one needs to be blessed with an unhardened heart. A heart whose ears are not plugged, whose eyes are not shut. To realise that the righteousness we uphold is nothing more than filthy rags in His presence, we must allow the Word to read our lives, judge our attitudes and motives. Allow His Word to,
You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. (Psalm 90:8)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (1 John 1:1)
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me. (John 1:1)

Both these scripture portions point to God thereby declaring that He is not abstract but someone we have touched and seen because we hold Him between our palms - when we hold the Bible. He is the Word and He talks about everything between beginning to eternity through the Bible.

Therefore,
Time spent reading the Word   ∝  Time invested in our relationship with Christ

But why do we need to invest in our relationship with Christ Jesus?

When man first disobeyed God, a gap was created between man and God. Through Jesus, God has given us one more chance to bridge the gap between us, His creations and the mighty creator. So we need to work towards our relationship with Christ to reach God's presence. (Must I note that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are all one but in different forms)

Just a subtle reminder for us all : We have seen many instances of Nature obeying God instantly throughout the bible (Continents being formed, Storm calming down, The Fig tree), but man who was created in His own image, still continues to have the arrogance to disobey God.

Lets all realise that the Word is God (God's spoken word, Jesus's spoken word, Holy spirit speaking through man), and allow the living and powerful Word to penetrate through our soul and judge our thoughts and actions to which we must respond accordingly in obedience, as nature did to God.
